Our whiskey barrel heads are made of aged oak and in the whiskey distilleries of Kentucky and North Carolina. We consider these 21" × 21" × ½" works of art great pallets to tell the story of the most meaningful moments of our customer's lives.

All About Whiskey Barrels
Did you know 70% of a whiskey's flavor comes from the barrel? From the tree to the aged whiskey, this is the process:

1. Coopers, highly trained artisans who build the casks, carefully cut white oak trees in a way that prevents splitting. The trees should be at least 70 years old. They use oak because it provides the right oxidation level to age the whiskey quickly.
2. Next, coopers season the planks and form them into staves, the sides of the barrels.
3. Then, they burn the barrels, which caramelizes the oak, to bring out flavors like vanilla, caramel, coconut, and smoke. The process is called charring.
4. Coopers fit metal hoops and barrel lids. Then, they drill in the bunghole.
5. They usually store the barrels for three years before adding the whiskey or bourbon.
6. Usually, distilleries stack whiskey barrels on racks in warehouses without climate control. Although, there is room for air circulation between the barrels. When it's hot, the whiskey expands, and when it's cold, the drink contracts, which matures it faster.
7. Distilleries let the beverages age for five to 20 years.​
